In the summer of 1847, a group of immigrants from the Netherlands settled in Marion County, Iowa, on the divide between the Des Moines and Skunk Rivers. Today, the downtown reflects the Dutch heritage in the architecture, locally made Dutch foods and Dutch festivals held throughout the year.
